GrowNYC in conjunction with Go Green Lower East Side, an initiative of Manhattan Borough President Scott M. Stringer, hosted Stop ‘N’ Swap today, a free swapping event to exchange unwanted clothes and household items. The four hour event was held at the Lower East Side’s Clemente Soto Velez Cultural Center & Educational Center with about 200 people in attendance.
Items ranging from Japanese pill bottles to Nine West shoes presented bargain shoppers with a diverse selection of items to choose from.
Clothing and textiles represent 7% of New York City's residential waste, community “swaps” are held to prevent waste from production and help promote environmentally friendly recycling practices.
