At a Town Hall Meeting organized by 1199 SEIU Borough President Scott Stringer joined hundreds of concerned doctors, nurses, patients, community members, and elected officials in addressing the potential closure of St. Vincent’s Hospital
Held at Our Lady of Pompeii Church, the meeting stressed how imperative it is to keep the hospital, an institution that has been serving its community for over a century, completely open. An offer to takeover the struggling hospital has been made by Continuum Health Partners, but it comes at the cost of eliminating inpatient care, cutting surgical services, and closing the Emergency Room.
In addition to being the only hospital serving a large portion of Manhattan’s west side, St. Vincent’s also provides medical attention to the city’s underprivileged, uninsured, and homeless. These individuals will lose their primary, and for some, only source of care, and be forced to travel further to get the immediate medical attention that they need.
In an effort to prevent the hospital from eliminating their current services, or even worse, indefinitely closing their doors, Borough President Stringer urges the State to step in and save the institution that has been saving its residents in their times of need.
