The news that 19-year-old recording artist Chris Brown was charged with assault against singer Rihanna, then 20 -- sending her to the hospital and him to a Los Angeles court on April 6 to be arraigned on two felony counts, assault and criminal threats – has brought the issue of domestic violence back into public consciousness.
