Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer, in partnership with Ariva Inc, Congresswoman Nydia Velazquez, State Senator Daniel L. Squadron, Assemblymember Brian P. Kavanagh, Council member Margaret Chin, and Councilmember Rosie Mendez, and other community organizations, will be hosting free tax preparation services for low income residents of Lower Manhattan at the Henry Street Settlement on March 6th. Federal and NY State Tax Returns as well as services in English, Chinese, and Spanish will be provided by IRS certified volunteers.

Quinn, Jonathan Rose of Jonathan Rose Companies, and a crowd of excited parents and students at the launch of the schools’ new “Greenroof Environmental Literacy Lab (GELL),” the first of its kind.
Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer announced the fellows selected for the third year of the Civic Leaders of Tomorrow Public Policy and Advocacy Program today. The five students, Muzna Ansari, Mariely Sanchez, Marie Therese Toure, Stella Ma, and Giovanna Romero Gil, were selected from a pool of educated and civic-minded young people from within the five boroughs.

Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer hosted his Fifth Annual Trailblazers Award Ceremony in honor of Black History Month. The event celebrates African American and Caribbean American New Yorkers who are leaders in their communities. Tonight’s event was co-sponsored by The Gospel Uptown and hosted at the GU Harlem restaurant and performance space.

Recent statistics from the Department of Labor show that unemployment in New York State is at a 26-year high, hovering at 9 percent. In New York City, the unemployment rate is even higher, at 10.6 percent.

Manhattan Borough President Scott M. Stringer delivered his 2010 State of the Borough Address on February 4, 2010 in the Council Chambers at City Hall. The Borough President was introduced by William J. Bratton, Former Chief Executive of the Los Angeles Police Department and New York Police Department. The evening also included a performance by Vy Higginsen’s Gospel for Teens Choir and welcoming remarks by Lillian Rodríguez López, President of the Hispanic Federation.
